Welcome to the Current Projects page! At the City of Polson, we are committed to the continuous development and improvement of our city's infrastructure, services, and amenities. This page serves as an overview of the ongoing projects that are currently underway or in the planning phase within our city.

City of Polson Projects:

Well House #8: This project aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of our water supply system. The construction of the Well house is currently underway, and we are working diligently to complete it as soon as possible. We understand the importance of a reliable water infrastructure, and this project is a significant step in improving the overall water quality and service in our city. This project is not a traffic concern.

Start Date: 3/10/23.

Substantial completion: Completed

17th Avenue: This project is located on 17th Avenue from 1st St. East to 2nd St. West. The project includes the construction of curb, gutter, sidewalk, pavement reconstruction, stormwater improvements, signing, and pavement markings. This project aims to ensure a safe walking path for students as well as improved overall driving conditions. This project will have an impact on the traffic conditions, as the road will need to be closed during construction. We understand the importance of road usage for everyday commute, Rolfson Addition one way streets (A Ave, B Ave) will temporarily be converted to 2-way streets, entering and exiting on 2nd st. west. Due to the streets being temporary 2-way use, there will be no on-street parking throughout the duration of the project to make enough room on the street.

Start date: 6/12/23

Substantial completion: Completed

2nd street Crosswalk: This project is located at the corner of 2nd street and highway 93. The project consists of reconstructing the handicap sidewalk ramp in accordance with ADA compliance. The traffic plan will be updated as soon as possible.

Start Date: 6/5/23

Substantial Completion: Completed

4th Avenue East Water Main: The Project Includes Installation of approximately 723 feet of new 8-inch PVC water main and appurtenances to replace undersized water mains and eliminate two dead ends. Water services will be replaced from the water main to the curb stop, and the cull road width will be milled and resurfaced. The traffic plan for the project will be updated as soon as possible.

Start date: 8/7/2023

Substantial completion: Completed

Street Improvements project:

Schedule 1: The first schedule of the streets improvement project is located on 4th Avenue West from 1st street West to 2nd Avenue West. The project will consist of repaving of the road with an added cushion, curb and gutters to be installed on each side of the street.

Schedule 2: The second schedule of the streets improvement project is located on 2nd Avenue West from 4th Avenue West to 5th Avenue West. The project will consist of repaving of the road with an added cushion, curb and gutters to be installed on each side of the street.

This project will close both roads while the street is under construction to maintain a timely completion period and safety. We appreciate the cooperation during this time.

State Projects:

Hello neighbors,

We hope you are enjoying this sunny week. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Riverside Contracting, is making progress on the Glover Road and US Highway 93 (US 93) project.

This coming week, Riverside crews are sealing the roadway, which includes adding a mix of concrete and a water-repellent sealant on US 93 from just north of Ronan to north of Pablo.

Additionally, guardrail installation is occurring on Glover Road.

Traffic control will be present throughout the work zone. Drivers can anticipate 10 – 15-minute delays when traveling through the project area.

Pavement preservation work on US 93 includes crack sealing, chip sealing, and fog sealing. Thin layers of asphalt will be applied to the roadway and portions of the Minesinger shared-use path to add life and longevity to the existing pavement. Updated pavement markings and signage will also be completed. Routine maintenance is required to extend the service life of the roadway.

Later this summer, guardrail and signage will be added to the curves on Glover Road at the canal crossing. A yellow flashing light will also be installed for eastbound vehicles to alert travelers of the roadway curves and canal bridge. These additions are intended to enhance safety for travelers and help prevent vehicles from going off the roadway.

Slow Down, Montana! Safe, Cautious Driving Saves Lives

Speeding and other reckless driving behaviors create unsafe conditions for you and others traveling Montana’s roads. Even if you are abiding by posted speed limits, you can still be traveling too fast for safety – particularly in inclement weather, low/no light conditions, or around emergency response or work zone sites. One simple and effective way to protect all roadway users is to lower your speed when driving a motor vehicle. In the event of a crash, the higher the speed of the vehicle(s) involved, the more deadly the collision – especially when a vulnerable roadway user is involved (pedestrian, bicyclist, motorcyclist, etc.). While driving a motor vehicle, remember to always follow posted speed limits, adjusting your speed as needed for current conditions, and keep your focus on the road ahead and the task of driving to help ensure we all reach our destinations safely.
