City Commission

Ward 1

Jen Ruggless

Jen comes to Montana after being born and raised in Houston, Texas. A long time Walgreens Store Manager, her job brought her here to Polson 7 years ago with her Husband of 26 years. During her time here, she was introduced to the Commission during the Red Nose Day Fundraising drive where her interest in Public Service peaked. After several successful years of Red Nose Fundraising, Jen was told she had Breast Cancer. This was a fight for her life that continues today with 5 years in remission. Jen became close to former Commissioner Jan Howlett who encouraged her to run for City Commission. After much consideration, Jen threw her hat into the ring to take former Commissioner Marchello's seat, narrowly missing the opportunity to Jake Holley. Not disappointed, Jen continued to keep in touch with Jan. Once Jan stepped down, Jen was voted in by her now Peers and is grateful and blessed to serve the beautiful City of Polson.

In her spare time, Jen enjoys Photography and Video Gaming with her Husband. She volunteers with Cheerful Heart, a local Cancer support group, and works to promote many Children’s Charities with Walgreens including Comic Relief, Shodair Hospitals, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Neither Republican nor Democrat, Jen prefers the middle ground and is an Independent by nature.

Jen is proud to represent the City of Polson and hopes to make it a safe, fun, and thriving business community with a giving spirit and open arms.

Laura Dever

Laura and her husband, Chad, were transferred several times with the Montana Highway Patrol and finally landed in Polson in 2020, after twenty-five years in Lolo and in Great Falls, Montana. Laura was appointed to the Polson City Commission, Ward 2, in July 2021 and then elected to that seat in November 2021. She has a degree in English and political science from THE Ohio State University, and has had careers in book sales and publishing, massage therapy and health club marketing and management.

Community investment and public service are very important to her: she serves on the State Board of Behavioral Health and the CASA Montana state board; volunteered as a CASA Guardian ad Litem; is a PEO member and a Polson Rotary member; worked with Eagle Mount Therapeutic Recreation; was a Great Falls Neighborhood Council 1 member; and served for many years on the boards of the Missoula Writing Collaborative, First Book, and the Women’s Hockey Association of Missoula.

Laura and Chad have a Bobcat son, Chase, and two happy dogs. They all enjoy our public parks and lands, and beautiful Flathead Lake. Laura plays hockey with lots of heart and a little skill. She and Chad are enthusiastic sports fans (Bobcats! Bison! Buckeyes!), downhill skiers, and terrible golfers.
